Magnificent but Standard

The Post.

  • The bar is so high for Streep and Hanks that their incredible acting feels commonplace, but compelling
  • It lacked the drama of Watergate because it unfolded over such a short window
  • Another reminder of the importance of an independent press and I pledge to increase my tolerance of self-righteous, condescending journalists by 10% (okay, maybe 5%)
  • I enjoyed Meryl’s “I hope we never go through anything like this again” aside near the end, but I noticed it too much, which I think gives me a “too forced” feeling…like whenever the new Star Wars episodes include Classic Han’s “I’ve got a bad feeling about this”.
  • I don’t know why this material is not more well known or more often referenced
  • My favorite moment of yesteryear nostalgia is when they referenced the “lino deadline”, talking about that super-cool typesetting machine, the “linotype” and then the “print quake” you could feel in the building as an issue went to print (new digital printing doesn’t have that same effect)

Not on my recommended list: less drama than Slate’s current Slow Burn podcast, less drama than even the source material, magnificent but standard Streep and Hanks
