Ugh. In less than 30 minutes I was inspired to excitment and then dashed to the rocks. Tonight I walked from the LES to Union Square for an 11p Barnes & Noble run to replace “Homo Deus” that I left in a cab earlier today (significantly raising the bar for enjoying the futurist theorem). Earlier in the day I was finally broken down by Slate’s Slow Burn podcast on Watergate and plunked down the $35 to gain access to the extra episodes through Slate Plus. At the top of the “Saturday Night Massacre” episode I learned about the Slate Live event on Feb 8 in DC — Dick Cavett, Lesley Stahl, Ashley Parker of WaPo and Evan Thomas. Already I was mentally booking my ticket, trying to line it up with my roll the following the week back to NY, reminiscing on my CATO dinner and starting to put together a question list. Then, at the end of the podcast, Leon (we’re on a first name basis now) broke my heart with “Sorry, it’s sold out”. I’ve had “get additional Slow Burns” on the todo list for a month, but hadn’t re-started the binge until this weekend, and now I have missed out on an evening with primary participants (I also would have lost the “Dick Cavett dead or alive contest”). A quick scan didn’t reveal any secondary market tickets…I’m going to have to see if I know anyone who can make the hook up. Ugh.
